King David (1985)

The Bible was the first great exploitation work. Ripe with sex and violence, it's a real page turner and sure to have you pounding more than the pulpit. Take King David (1985), a biblical epic complete with scantily clad maidens and decapitating, gory war scenes. Richard Gere plays the legendary leader of the Israelites who flips his loincloth for Bathsheba, and no wonder when the iconic enchantress is made flesh by Alice Krige. The good Jewish boy gets hungry for her when he catches sight of Alice's apples and even a slice of her pie. He has a good bedroom servant in Cherie Lunghi, but even after fluffing her pillows Gere still wants to go ask Alice if he can jump down her rabbit hole. This is truly a holy movie.
