Even though Jennifer Jason Leigh was married to filmmaker Noah Baumbach at the time, she teamed up with Alan Cumming to co-write, co-direct, co-produce, and co-star in The Anniversary Party (2001). Not to be confused with the rom-com Happy Anniversary (2018) or the French comedy L’Anniversaire (2005), this ensemble dramedy showcases JJL’s bare back and side breast! As Sally Nash, she and her hubby Joe Therrian (Cumming) are throwing a get-together to celebrate their sixth year of marriage. On the guest list are Astrid (Blair Tefkin), Cal Gold (Kevin Kline), Gina Taylor (Jennifer Beals), Lucy (Sadie Frost), Mac Forsyth (John C. Reilly), Skye Davidson (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Monica Rose (Mina Badie) who will make you rise when you see her bikini body! In real life, Ms. Badie is Jennifer Jason Leigh’s half-sister which may explain why Mina only showed half of her skin. The R rated movie also includes indie flick princess Parker Posey and her nude boobettes! Not to be upstaged, arthouse actress Jane Adams repeatedly flashes her mini-rack! Perhaps that’s why the motion picture won the National Board of Review Award for Excellence In Filmmaking as well as the Palm Dog Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Heaven knows, Mr. Skin definitely considered it for a Palm-of-the-Hand Award! In addition to such praise and accolades, The Anniversary Party marks the final screen performance by Phoebe Cates before she retired.
