The Love Hypothesis (2026)

TV vet Claire Scanlon, who gave us 2018’s Set It Up, returns to the rom-com genre with this adaptation of neuroscientist-turned-author Ali Hazelwood’s same-named novel. Riverdale darling Lili Reinhart plays Olive Smith, a biology student looking to get accepted into a PhD program at Stanford so she can cure pancreatic cancer, which took her mother from her years earlier. Thanks to a pair of expired contact lenses, we’re treated to a meet-cute in a lab bathroom between Olive and Dr. Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman), a professor known for making his students cry, and has thus been dubbed Dr. Evil. Olive lands a PhD spot and spends the next two years hard at work while becoming besties with fellow grad student Anh (Rachel Marsh). She also develops a crush on Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), but he’s more interested in Anh, though Anh turns him down out of respect for Olive. Not wanting to stand in their way, Olive lies and says she’s dating someone else. To really sell it, she kisses the next man that crosses her path… and of course, it’s Adam. Coincidentally, Adam could use a fake girlfriend in order to prove he’s committed to sticking around, which would guarantee him continued grant funding. As it has done many times in the past, fake dating eventually brings about real feelings, and because of this we’re treated to our very first look at Lili’s outstanding breasts when things go from the scientific method to the rhythm method approximately an hour and twenty minutes in!
