Not unlike the 70s-set series Minx, Spread tells the more modern story of a feminist and aspiring journalist named Ruby (Elizabeth Gillies) who, after being fired from yet another magazine job after bad-mouthing the company’s integrity, must start temping at a skin mag to make ends meet. While her continued arrogant ranting and raving doesn’t win her any friends amongst her coworkers, it does seem to impress her boss, Frank Ferretti (Harvey Keitel), who decides to promote her after she goes on about how the adult magazine should establish a proper social media presence and start marketing more to women. Despite having never done it before, Ruby is put in charge of creating an app for Spread, but while she’s busy revolutionizing the outdated magazine she still feels the need to hide what she does for a living. The biggest difference between this a Minx, besides the time period, is Spread is seriously lacking in nudity for a series about the porn industry. There’s a lot of sapphic smooching, and even talk about analingus, but the show’s bevy of babes never take off their sexy, skimpy accoutrement. You may still feel the need to spread your seed while watching though!
