Private Benjamin (1980) will stir your privates! The army romp about a spoiled Jewish American Princess reigned at the box office and was a royal hit with critics. Cowritten by Nancy Meyers, the story begins at the wedding reception for Judith Benjamin (Oscar nominee Goldie Hawn). Her honeymoon is literally looking up when her hubby (Albert Brooks) with a chubby has a heart attack and dies while uttering “I’m coming.” What a way to go! To escape her pain, Judy enlists in the military because she mistakes bootcamp for a spa getaway. But once the blonde babe puts on fatigues and enters basic training, she realizes that is not the case. Nevertheless, she winds up making friends including Private Gianelli (Toni Kalem) who isn’t shy about flashing cleavage via her red brassiere. Like Ms. Hawn, Ms. Kalem dons a sexy white T-shirt that proves her pokies are standing at attention. Of course, our favorite military maneuver takes place when Private Winter (P.J. Soles) reveals her rack while fooling around with Captain Woodbridge (Craig T. Nelson) — emphasis on wood! After enduring a MeToo moment, Judy negotiates a sweet position in Europe where she meets the dreamy Henri Alan Tremont (Armand Assante). As expected, she falls for the rich and handsome man. As expected, she sleeps with him — even treating us to a glimpse of her nip in bed! Yet the movie’s unexpected twist comes when Judy realizes she’d rather be an independent woman than some guy’s wife. What a happy ending!
