Hufters & hofdames (1997)

Men and women are given equal time to weigh in about the battle of the sexes in the hip Dutch romantic comedy HUFTERS & hofdames (1997). Comprised of two distinct halves--one told from the perspective of a man, and the other from a woman--Eddy Terstall’s film initially follows a lovesick twenty-something (Marc van Uchelen) who grows convinced that his sensitive, understanding nature isn’t what the cold-hearted women in his life are looking for. The protagonist of the second half, however, would be likely to disagree. Susan (Nadja Hüpscher) has weathered her share of abusive boyfriends and is looking for a shoulder to cry on. If Terstall’s movie suggests you can’t always get what you want, nude glimpses of Hüpscher and co-stars Femke Lakerveld and Rifka Lodeizen suggest otherwise.
