Breaking the Waves (1996)

Although British babe Emily Watson had appeared in the TV movies A Summer Day’s Dream (1994) and The Mill on the Floss (1997), Breaking the Waves (1996) was her breakthrough. Not only does the R rated flick mark her big screen debut, it’s also her nude debut! The sexy thespian was all but unknown when writer/director Lars von Trier cast her in his provocative pic after Helena Bonham Carter skipped out. The psychological drama centers around a childlike woman, Bess McNeill (Watson), who is suffering from mental trauma after the death of her brother. She lives on the coast of Scotland with her Danish oil rigger husband Jan Nyman (Stellan Skarsgård). Unlike Jan, Bess is a godly person who regularly attends church. She believes her hubby’s unholy ways may be the cause of an accident that leaves him paralyzed from the neck down. While Bess prays for him to recover, Jan has a bright idea: she should sleep with other guys and tell him all about it! Even medicated, this fellow is firing on all cylinders. Maybe that’s why he played a scholar in Good Will Hunting (1998). Of course, if you’re hunting for good views of Emily’s great body, Breaking the Waves will break your spank bank! She bares her breasts during sex with Stellan just 20 minutes into the movie. If that’s not arousing enough, Ms. Watson later goes full frontal while trying to seduce Dr. Richardson (Adrian Rawlins). Although he refuses her charms, this English rose makes us rise!
