A guy leads a lonely life without his pals, but in some cases solo isolation is preferable to group desperation. The three buddies who grudgingly call Palookaville (1995) home are unexceptional on their own. As individuals, the boys are not particularly intelligent, daring, or criminal. As an aggregate, however, not even a bungled jewelry-store robbery can convince the friends that they are anything less than a gang of larcenous masterminds capable of plotting and committing a brilliant and lucrative armored-car robbery. Absurdity ensues, with hilarious and pathetic consequences. Only dumb luck and the Almighty’s fondness for fools save the bonds of friendship from being further forged by life behind bars.
