Borrowing liberally from the Police Academy comedy cycle, Michel Schroeder’s Mortuary Academy (1988) is a blissfully tasteless portrayal of a training center for would-be morticians. Christopher Atkins and Perry Lang star as stoner brothers who inherit a funeral home despite having no idea how to handle a corpse. Instead of bailing on embalming, the brothers decide to enroll in a spooky mortuary academy, run by a sleazy necrophiliac (Paul Bartel) and a smoking-hot (but morbidly deranged) instructor (Mary Woronov). Insanity promptly ensues and is perhaps best summarized by the scene of one brain-dead student humping a corpse played by Cheryl Starbuck. Of course, there’s a real, live Starbuck under all that pancake makeup, and her toned body is quite sentient, so enjoy!
