Review

Eccentric convicts Tom Waits, Roberto Benigni, and John Lurie go on the run in the indie-film classic Down by Law (1986). Director Jim Jarmusch utilizes his signature B&W photography and meandering dialogue in this tale of three convicts who escape from a New Orleans prison and flee through the bayou. The pace is slower than an eighty-year-old waitress in a Georgia diner, but stick with it and you'll find that this quirky comedy is one to savor. The sight of Billie Neal's beautiful brown skin glistening with sweat as she full-frontally berates no-good pimp Jack (Lurie) 11 minutes in doesn't hurt, either.
