British director Peter Greenaway is known for creating complex, dense films that can be difficult to comprehend. And his reputation for delivering satisfying conflict, controversy and carnality via exquisite transgression was well established with A Zed & Two Noughts (1985). The macabre story centers around twin zoologists Oswald (Brian Deacon) and (Eric Deacon) Oliver Deuce. After a car accident, Alba Bewick (Andréa Ferréol) loses a leg and the twins lose their wives. As such, the brothers find solace in dead animals at work. Thanks to their self-prescribed grief therapy, Oswald and Oliver use time-lapse photography to fixate on the process of decay after death. The guys also embrace the nature of life by sexing up the local prostitute Venus de Milo (Frances Barber) who bares A Bush & Two Boobs. If that’s not hot enough, she also reveals her rump! Not to be outdone, Caterina Bolnes (Guusje van Tilborgh) lets a dude lift up her dress to see her beaver at the 42-minute mark. A little later, Guusje shows off her bare breasts and fluffy muff when she poses with a trumpet for a semi-naked photo. Needless to say, this image will make you horn-y! As the film comes to a close, Alba gives birth to a new set of twins and the expectations raised by Greenaway’s talents are fully met.
