The Paper Boy (1994)

Friendships are difficult to come by for some people. Loneliness is a killer, especially out in semi-rural areas where a shy, isolated fellow might go so far as to murder in order to gain a pal. If ever an old lady needed an excuse to cancel her newspaper subscription and stick with CNN, that reason is the disturbed and socially awkward title character of The Paper Boy (1994). Lugging his sack of bad news along the same route day after day, with no one to invite him in for a cup of kindness and conviviality, this sad, unwilling loner hatches a plan. He will kill only this one elderly matron. Her family will converge upon the remote town of her retirement to settle her affairs, and a whole new pool of potential buddies will become available. But once he has crossed the line and slain in the hopes of companionship, how can this demented delivery boy be expected to react when his overtures are rebuffed?
