Star 80 (1983)

About ten years before the advent of star 69, there was Star 80 (1983). The R-rated drama (not to be confused with France’s 2012 comedy Stars 80) showcases Mariel Hemingway’s flawless figure! Under the skinematic direction of choreographer Bob Fosse (who also penned the screenplay), the nudecomer portrays doomed beauty Dorothy Stratten. The blonde babe was a Canadian Playboy model who was killed by her husband Paul Snider. He’s played by Eric Roberts in a pitch-perfect turn as the archetypal “suitcase pimp.” In fact, he nabbed a Golden Globe nomination and was named Best Actor at the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards. Moody, macabre and emotionally draining, this bleak biopic takes the audience on a disturbing ride into the reality of victim and victimizer alike. But, at least, there are plenty of sexy sights to enjoy along the way. In one scene, Ms. Hemingway bares her breasticles in the bath. In another, she flashes her rack and panty-class ass during an impromptu photo shoot. Say cheese! If that’s not hot enough, the hottie steams up the screen when she dons black stockings and nothing in between! The topless talent later sheds her threads to go to bed with her man. Too bad he’s better at making war than love. The film also includes Carroll Baker, Neva Patterson, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Roger Rees, Gwen Welles, Deborah Geffner, and Cliff Robertson as Hugh Hefner. While the movie did fine at the box office, it generated even more interest in Mr. Skin’s spank bank!
