Review

Director Oliver Assayas recalls the heady days after the May '68 protests in the semi-autobiographical Something in the Air (2012). Gilles (Clément Métayer) is a 17-year-old high school student, activist and aspiring filmmaker who flees France for Italy with his girlfriend Christine (Lola Créton) after a security guard is seriously injured during a protest in which they were participating. On the road with a myopic group of would-be revolutionaries, Gilles sees for the first time the flaws in his revolutionary beliefs. 12 minutes in, Carole Combes kicks off the free-love get by going topless in bed with a guy, and Lola follows with a solo skin scene 41 minutes in and a delightful duo of dairies with India Salvor Menuez at the 51-minute mark. There's Something in The Air...and on my jeans.
