With a BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated performance by Geoffrey Rush, the racy dramedy Quills (2000) gives a fictional depiction of the Marquis De Sade in the last chapter of his life. Considered too obscene and perverse by Napoléon Bonaparte (Ron Cook), the infamous writer is locked in an asylum. Yet he still finds a way to smuggle his erotic work to a publisher outside. Doug Wright adapts his Obie award-winning play for the big screen with the help of director Philip Kaufman. The R rated film features Amelia Warner, Billie Whitelaw, Joaquin Phoenix, Michael Caine, Rush’s real life wife Jane Menelaus, and the always breastacular Kate Winslet. As the voluptuous laundress Madeleine “Maddie” LeClerc, Kate displays her LeCans on camera! Her buoyant Titanics fill the screen during a fantasy scene when her cold corpse comes to life while Abbé de Coulmier (Phoenix) suckles on her nipple before getting on top of the dead-sexy starlet. In other words, Kate’s cannons will have you shooting a revolutionary load! Getting in on the skintastic action is Michette (Rebecca Palmer) who treats us to a peek at her pretty peaks when she plays the meat in a threesome sandwich. Perhaps that’s why The National Board of Review selected Quills as its Best Film of the year. In fact, Mr. Skin gives Ms. Winslet a standing ovation in his pants. We’d applaud too (if our hands weren’t already busy elsewhere). Kinky, hot, and totally twisted, this period piece will get your prick ready to poke. Period!
