Based on the true story depicted in the 2015 book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism , Friendship, and Sacrifice by author Adam Makos, this war drama recounts the friendship between two naval officers, Tom Hudner (Glen Powell), a lieutenant in the Fighter Squadron 32 at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in 1950, and Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors), the only Black member of the unit. Their camaraderie begins when Hudson gives Brown a ride home after his car breaks down, meets his family, and sees how the ensign is treated by his racist neighbors. The squadron is transferred to the USS Leyte in the Mediterranean and eventually deployed to South Korea when war breaks out, but not before Brown wins points with the rest of the crew when he gets them all invited to a casino in Cannes by sexy, young starlet, Elizabeth Taylor, played by Serinda Swan and her classic curves. Hers is the only can we really care about!
