Director Brian De Palma’s high-school horror flick Carrie (1976) is a classic and an archetype. In the ensuing decades, Carrie has been a source of inspiration and imitation to countless followers, but De Palma’s steamy, multi-titty shower scene of Carrie still stands as an unequaled original. Much has been said in praise of De Palma’s gripping and jolting adaptation of writer Stephen King’s novel. The narrative push has been amply hailed as fresh, engaging, and suspenseful. Not enough has been said, or could ever be said, of the gripping and jolting views of buns and boobies suspended from the fresh and engaging forms of actresses Sissy Spacek and Nancy Allen. Although attempts to emulate them will be heartily welcomed, the daring skin flaunting of Spacek and Allen will never be duplicated.
