Carne apaleada (1978)

Cult veteran Javier Aguirre became the first director in post-Franco Spain to earn an S rating (for sexual content) for his lurid feature Carne apaleada (1977). It may not be a Best Picture Oscar, but it’s still a feather in the cap for a fearless sexploitation director. Short on plot, Aguirre’s film follows a young woman’s depraved journey through the Spanish prison system. Accused of robbery, the heroine has no idea about the Sapphic treats and tortures she’ll be subjected to behind bars.
