Bad City (2006)

Set in the smelly underbelly of society, Bad City (2006) is the story of a disparate group of down-on-their-luckers, hucksters, mobsters, and coppers whose lives all intertwine. Lance Reddick is the requisite rotten cop sopped to his eye sockets in gambling losses. He's also been twiddling the knobs of mobster Austin Pendleton's mistress, and when the poor widdle betwiddled broad turns up dead, Lance tries to pin the crime on someone other than Austin--who might as well own him, stench and all. Meanwhile, politician Mike McGlone gladhands his wife right to death and tries to make it look like a copycat killer did her, unaware that the always-overachieving Lance has already picked out a patsy. Nutsa Kukhianidze (who caught our eye as a hooker in 2002's The Good Thief) is the nut-bustingly cute Russian maid who discovers the truth about the mobman's doings. Before you can say, "Aw, nuts, Nutsa!" she's gone to Lance for protection, setting even more gritty-tittied grime drama in motion.
