The virtual world of cyber relationships would appear to be a safe outlet for the commitment-shy romantic who yearns for recurring moments of human intimacy without all that messy inconvenience of actual physical contact. In Three Blind Mice (2003), a somewhat stunted but adequately self-serviced online Lothario has arranged his optimum romantic situation: He and his lady love meet only through web-cam connections and have no plans to take their contact to any more vital level. Unfortunately even the best plans and most optimum situations are subject to tricks of fate. The play-it-safe seducer’s screen pal is murdered under his very eyes. In death, the victim draws the witness deeper into her life than she ever could have as a breathing, flesh-and-blood creation.
