Scenes of the Crime (2001)

Weeks away from his wedding, a good-natured grease monkey gets wildly in over his head by taking a job as an impromptu mob chauffeur in Scenes of the Crime (2001). Jon Abrahams stars as Lenny, a mild-mannered mechanic whose biggest flaw is a soft spot for fast cars. When a mob associate (Peter Greene) offers him some cash to drive him around Los Angeles, the mechanic naively agrees to take a turn behind the wheel. Before he realizes it, however, Len’s an accessory to kidnapping, as Rick (Greene) manages to strong-arm an archrival racketeer (Jeff Bridges) into the backseat of the vehicle. Chaos ensues, and when the smoke clears, Rick winds up dead––a development that puts Len in a tight spot between the mobster in his back seat and the don who set up the job. Watching the car junkie sweat it out, you’ll find yourself rooting for him to get out of his predicament and back into the arms of his lovely fiancée. Mizuo Peck’s perky pointers are just the kind of reward a nice guy deserves after a long, hard day.
