The Homesman (2014)

With the western Dances with Wolves (1990), Kevin Costner scored a Best Actor nomination and took home Oscars for Best Director and Best Motion Picture (since he was also the film’s producer). The same exact things can be said of Clint Eastwood with his work on Unforgiven (1992). So, we can only assume Tommy Lee Jones had visions of gold when he co-wrote, directed and starred in the western The Homesman (2014). Based on Glendon Swarthout’s same-named novel, the R-rated film is set in 1854. That’s when a hardened claim jumper named George Briggs (Jones) is hired by frontier woman Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank) to escort and protect a trio of mentally ill damsels from Nebraska to Iowa. The dangers the ladies face are numerous, and whether or not they can trust such a grizzled old bastard like Briggs comes into question several times. One of the ways Mary Bee attempts to calm him is by baring her Bs (breasts and bush) while banging him. If that’s not arousing enough, there’s also a scene in which Ms. Cuddy bathes Arabella Sours (Grace Gummer), Theoline Belknapp (Miranda Otto), and Gro Svendsen (Sonja Richter) in a stream. The skintastic act showcases the gals’ nude glutes. Perhaps that’s why the flick picked up a Best Ensemble prize from the Women Film Critics Circle. The feminist western also features Ms. Gummer’s real-life mother Meryl Streep as well as Hailee Steinfeld, James Spader, Jesse Plemons, Caroline Lagerfelt, John Lithgow, and Ms. Richter’s ravishing rack. Yee haw!
