Director Francis Ford Coppola needed something light and sweet to cleanse his palate after the dense pungency of Apocalypse Now (1979), and One from the Heart (1982) is that refreshing treat. Where does a couple look for rejuvenating romance when love seems to be lost? If they are the pair played by quirky and sexy Teri Garr and Frederic Forrest, they scour the stylized Las Vegas settings of One from the Heart, stumble in and out of bed and see one another in a fresh, new light--although the changed perspective should have been obvious all along. Singer/songwriter Tom Waits rustled up an Oscar nomination for his accompanying soundtrack.
