Grindhouse filmmaker William Lustig pulls out all the stops in the great, gritty, rock-'em, sock-'em, blast-'em-out-of-their-socks revenge bash Vigilante (1983). Robert Forster plays a middle-class dad in Queens, New York, whose life is changed forever when a throng of multi-ethnic toughs (the sort that only exists in awesome '80s thrillers like this) murders his kid and messes up his wife. Adding trauma to tragedy is that after he attempts to fight back, a corrupt judge and a nightmare attorney (the immortal Joe Spinell) send Forster--not the lowlife scumbags--to jail! Once he's sprung, our hero-who's-been-through-hell bands together with a gaggle of fed-up citizens and they unleash gory, lethal fury all over punks in all five boroughs. You must see Vigilante; there ought to be a law!
