Brian De Palma is responsible for some of the most colorful and kinetic films of the 1970s and ’80s, but Murder à la Mod (1968) proves that he was working his mojo even earlier than that. One of the very first features by the director of Carrie (1976) and Scarface (1983), this 1968 oddity attempts to get to the bottom of the vicious stabbing murder of a beautiful photographer’s model. In this sly commentary on sex and cinema, De Palma coaxes buxom lead actress Margo Norton into disrobing for the film’s sexiest scene.
