An early film by Brian De Palma, Greetings (1968) is noteworthy both because it was Robert De Niro’s first major film role and because it was the first film ever to receive an X rating. Set against the turbulence of the late ’60s, the film follows three characters: introverted Paul (Jonathan Warden), paranoid Lloyd (Gerrit Graham), and aspiring filmmaker and peeping tom Jon Rubin, played by De Niro and later reprised by him in Hi, Mom (1970). Greetings also features full-frontal nudity from Sara-Jo Edlin, and that will have you greeting yourself with a hearty handshake!
