She was nominated for acting awards in Immediate Family (1989), Benny and Joon (1993), and Lilly Dale (1996) (she won for the latter two) but is best known as Idgie Threadgoode, the free-spirited girl with latent lesbian tendencies in Fried Green Tomatoes (1991).
