Margaret Avery started her career with a groovalicious role in Cool Breeze (1972). Sexy as that performance was, Margaret, unlike many black actresses in the '70s, didn't get pigeonholed into one blaxploitation gig after another--not that being a proud ebony warrior is a bad thing. One of her most stellar performances, however, if for no other reason than she flashed her perky tits, was in the decidedly blaxploitative Hell Up in Harlem (1973). Shortly after that skinful gig, Margaret went on to what has become quite the successful career, with movies such as Scott Joplin (1977), the made-for-TV sci-fi cult classic The Lathe of Heaven (1980), The Color Purple (1985), featuring her infamous lesbian kiss with Whoopi Goldberg, and Lightning in a Bottle (1993) under her belt. And Margaret's belt is Avery sexy one.
