Mardi Gras Massacre (1978)

The Big Easy proves to be chock full of easy targets for a masked killer in the sex- and gore-filled slasher flick Mardi Gras Massacre (1978). Jack Weis, who directed a bunch of these sleazy slasher flicks in the seventies before taking a thirty year break before returning to direct a Melissa Etheridge television special, of all things, was the man behind this tale of a dude named John (William Metzo) who likes to dress up like an Aztec priest and performing ritual sacrifices on New Orleans based hookers. While he's selecting prostitutes in NOLA to ritually sacrifice to the goddess Coatla, New Orleans PD trots out their hard-boiled detective Frank Hebert (Curt Dawson) to track him down. The thing is, New Orleans needs him to do it super quickly and very quietly, since Mardi Gras is coming up and the city doesn't want to ruin their biggest tourist attraction by advertising that there's an Aztec obsessed killer on the loose. Anyone who's seen JAWS (1975) knows how well that idea is going to work out, especially when Frank fails at staying focused and falls in love with one of the hottest hookers (Gwen Arment). No beads necessary to see the Mardi Gras mams in this UK "video nasty." Playmate Laura Misch Owens shows boob and bush while getting undressed and lying down on John's defacto sacrificial altar. Why she thinks that's reasonable is unclear, but when John stays touching her jugs she seems to enjoy it. We sure did! Gwen Arment's titties can be seen when she's chained to a wall as Frank tries to keep her from being another one of John's next sacrifice. Those things are nice! Even if you were going to sacrifice sexy women like John does, wouldn't you have a roll with them in the sack, first? Mr. Skin would. Not even a massacre can stop the Mardi party!
