Maniac (1980)

At the height of the slasher craze, Maniac (1980) was condemned by critics as one of the sleaziest, most irredeemable examples of the genre--and that’s why Mr. Skin loves it! The late, great character actor Joe Spinell dominates the movie as Frank Zito, a lonely New York psycho with a habit of stabbing, killing, and scalping women. When not stalking Times Square or ranting insanely to a mannequin in his apartment, sweaty Spinell chases after classy fashion photographer Caroline Munro. Goremeister Tom Savini’s splatter effects earned Maniac an X rating. The skin quotient is nowhere near as hardcore as the violence, but porn star Gail Lawrence (a.k.a. Abigail Clayton) contributes bathtub nudity as Spinell’s final victim.
