One of the reasons why the American school system is in such shambles is that students simply refuse to try hard enough. An innovative solution to the culture of underachievement is presented in Learning Curve (1998). Learning Curve’s zero-tolerance system of behavior modification is intended as a pointed satire with dark hilarity, but perhaps a visionary education administrator somewhere has the guts to implement the program unadulterated. There is no guarantee that imprisoning discipline-deficient co-eds in electrically wired pens, fully nude, and subjecting them to electrical shocks will improve the academic standing of these ladies. Such a system will, however, ensure that a motivated and attentive breed of professional is recruited to the teaching pool.
