Review
The love triangle between Neal Cassady (Nick Nolte), his wife Carolyn (Sissy Spacek), and their buddy Jack Kerouac (John Heard) is explored in the freewheeling romantic drama Heart Beats (1980). Based on the memoir by Carolyn Cassady, Heart Beats tells the story behind On the Road as Carolyn struggles both to maintain a home while her husband goes in search of adventure (and booze) and to reconcile her love for both Neal and Jack. Speaking of jacking, Ann Dusenberry makes a brief appearance as one of Neal's sex-tracurricular lovers, and helpfully bares her berries taking a co-ed bath. Heart Beats will make you beat...hard.
