Drive, He Said

Drive, He Said (1971)

Brief Nudity

Review

Acting legend Jack Nicholson didn't direct many movies, and even the ones he did helm tend to be flicks he also starred in. The lone exception to that rule was the comedic drama Drive, He Said (1972), where Jack exclusively stayed behind the camera. That's not to say there was no star power behind the film. Not only was it directed by Nicholson, but it was written by Oscar winning screenwriter Jeremy Larner and famed director Terrence Malick. But with all that Hollywood brain power, the movie was mostly canned by critics and has become largely forgotten. Based on Larner's novel, the film follows the turbulent and intersecting lives of Hector (William Tepper), a star player on his college basketball team; his girlfriend, Olive (Karen Black), who is ambivalent about their relationship; and his friend Gabriel (Michael Margotta), who has dropped out of college and is trying to avoid the Vietnam War draft. Filmed at the University of Oregon, including during a real life campus riot that Nicholson shot using guerilla tactics, the movie shows the turbulent time via Gabriel, who gets heavy into drugs and the counterculture scene, and suddenly starts acting insane. On the other hand, as the big man on campus Hector is constantly cheating on Olive, including with his professor's wife. All these issues come to a head, and we're left wondering exactly what's gonna happen to these crazy kids. As Hector's crazy hot girlfriend, Karen Black is barin’ rack when she takes off her bathrobe to show off her perfect pair. Nudity like that almost had this flick rated X, but we're happy Jack gave us something to jack it to. That Drive, He Said scene alone will get your sex drive revved up!
