Desert Hearts (1985)

Before Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain (2005) wowed critics with its dude-on-dude love story, audiences were turned on by Donna Deitch’s dyke-on-dyke Western. Indeed, the best thing about the LBGetc film industry is the T&A showcased in Desert Hearts (1985). Considering the pantheon of provocative pics, this rug-munching romance is right up there with Personal Best (1982). Based on Jane Rule’s novel “Desert of the Heart” (1964), the drama follows Vivian Bell (Helen Shave), a middle-aged married woman who teaches English at Columbia University and longs to leave her husband. As such, she heads west to set up residency in Reno. The plan is to take advantage of Nevada’s liberal divorce laws. Of course, Vivian didn’t plan on Cay Rivers (Patricia Charbonneau) to ring her bell! Since Cay is a free-loving self-assured scissor-sister, it doesn’t take long for the two to enjoy some Sapphic action. In fact, the lovely ladies shed their threads before you can say “Lez be friends!” Brunette babe Patricia gets on top of the fair-haired Helen to work on her big, bare breasts in bed. If that’s not erotic enough, Ms. Charbonneau offers up her ravishing rack so she can go teat-to-teat with Ms. Shaver in a special, ultra-long version of this same-sex skinema classic! The movie also includes Audra Lindley, Denise Crosby, Gwen Welles, and the skin on Andrea Akers. In her portrayal of Silver, the latter actress shines when she exposes her gams and mam while canoodling with Cay. It’s so hot, you’ll get a Desert Heart-on!
