A homeless painter and his female muse discover the joys of flesh and art in the sensual Japanese drama Déracine (2004). Eiji Okuda stars as Jouji, an itinerant artist who’s too impoverished to afford canvas. By painting his abstract masterpieces on discarded scraps of cardboard, the homeless prodigy comes to the attention of a key Tokyo art dealer. Newly inspired, Jouji enlists a beautiful young friend (Asuka Kurosawa) to travel to the mountains with him and serve as his model. Thankfully she agrees, and director Shun Nakahara generates much excitement by capturing her nubile body against beautiful backdrops of trees, mountains, and streams. If you somehow manage to get tired of Kurosawa, there’s even a flesh flash from Chieko Misaka, who appears as another of Jouji’s sensuous subjects.
