The fertile film genres of science fiction and monster-baby horror intersect and cross-pollinate in the machine powered horror flick Demon Seed (1977). While it might sound like a Rosemary's Baby (1968) ripoff, this thinking man's film was based on a Dean Koontz novel from 1973. Director Donald Cammell’s clever mix of suspense and social satire creates a bioengineered technological thriller that appeals equally to a creeped-out and fascinated audience’s primal urges, as well as to their higher intelligence. In the movie, a smarty-pants scientist named Dr. Alex Harris (Fritz Weaver) develops Proteus, a wizardly AI computer that is so brilliant it essentially cures Leukemia, then concocts a way to attack and impregnate its creator’s silky, sexy blonde wife (played by eternally engorging English enchantress Julie Christie). It traps her in the house, makes a robot that brings her to the basement computer, and studies her body. One of us! One of us! Eventually it figures out how to create sperm cells, knocks her up, then manipulates her into loving the computer baby that he sets up with a sweet robo-nursery. When Alex figures out what's going on, will they love their new pseudo-child or put an end to it and Proteus' time on earth? This is a weird one, but we can't help but sympathize with the machine's desire to get between Julie Christie's thighs. She's so, so hot, even to a robot! Our T&A loving AI creeps on Julie's jugs while she lies in bed, as well as when she takes a shower. Then, with a surveillance camera, he gets a great look at her mams and can as she puts on her towel. A film that has aged quite well in the era of ChatGPT, even artificial intelligence can't focus when presented with the well endowed Julie Christie! Wish she'd give our laptop a lapdance!
