Carmen (2023)

Dancer Benjamin Millipied directs this contemporary tale based very loosely off the opera Carmen and the subsequent English adaptation Carmen Jones, but with music by Nicholas Britell rather than the familiar tunes of Georges Bizet. This story is first set in Mexico, where we see a flamenco dancer shot by drug cartel goons. Before dying, she tells her daughter Carmen (Melissa Barrera) to go find Masilda (Rossy de Palma) in Los Angeles. Carmen attempts to cross the border into Texas in a truck with other immigrants, but they are stopped by ex-Marine Aidan (Paul Mescal) and his buds who are part of a volunteer border patrol group. The other immigrants are killed, but Aidan saves Carmen and the two go on the run, eventually making it to Masilda’s nightclub. On the way, Melissa shows off her dancer’s bod, revealing her Barreras when she and Paul have sex in a motel room. As the 1954 song says, Carmen may be taboo, but we still love to see her ta-boobs!
