If you've ever seen that documentary about the woman who married The Eiffel Tower or heard of the phenomenon of people falling in love with inanimate objects, you're going to have a much easier time buying into the premise of Jumbo (2020)! Portrait of a Lady on Fire hottie Noémie Merlant stars as Jeanne, an introverted young lady who still lives at home with her mother while also holding down a job at a local amusement park. Jeanne's main bag is the carousel, as only she seems to appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of the ride in motion, but all of that changes when the park brings in a new attraction. Jeanne dubs the new attraction, which is kind of like a carousel on steroids, Jumbo and finds herself falling madly in love with the ride. And not just in the way your average person "falls in love" with their new phone or some other object they can't live without. No, this is actual romantic love that Jeanne has for a thing that can't possibly reciprocate such feelings. As strange as it all may seem, this is indeed based on an actual phenomenon wherein some people experience romantic love for inanimate objects, and the film treats it with a heaping helping of humanity in order to not stigmatize the main character. Speaking of which, Noémie Merlant gets nude a bunch of times in this flick—seven by our calculations—between the one minute mark and the 66 minute mark, even baring all right out of the gate! One look at Noémie in the altogether is sure to get you Jumbo too!
