A beauty-shop proprietress befriends a tortured transsexual in the refreshingly liberated Euro sex comedy A Soap (2006). Co-produced in Sweden and Denmark, Pernille Fischer Christensen’s saucy Scandinavian romance follows the evolving relationship between bed-hopping shopkeeper Charlotte (Trine Dyrholm) and shy, pre-op transsexual Veronica (David Dencik). What starts as an uneasy relationship soon blossoms into a passionate affair, as the unlikely neighbors begin rehearsing one another as lovers. Lanky blonde Dyrholm is the one to watch here––she’s refreshingly immodest about slipping in and out of lingerie during her afternoon encounters with the would-be woman.
