8MM (1999)

Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) learns one skin flick is too many, a thousand not enough in 8MM (1999), not to be confused with the stand-alone sequel 8MM 2 (2005). Under the direction of Joel Schumacher, Cage plays a private investigator hired by a woman (Myra Carter) to unearth the snuff industry. Along the way, he encounters adult video store staffer Max California (Joaquin Phoenix), a sleazy talent scout named Eddie Poole (James Gandolfini), and X rated film director Dino Velvet (Peter Stormare). In other words, this Private Dick’s beat is to beat off! Indeed, the deeper undercover Tom goes, the deeper he falls into perversion. As such, the kinky copper watches heavy bondage pics, like the one where the aptly-named Jacklyn Lick is strung up topless by a leather-hooded creep. Every time the be-thonged babe gets whipped, it seems as if Tom wants to whack back … at himself! The movie also includes appearances by Catherine Keener, Amy Morton, Suzy Nakamura, and Jenny Powell’s skimpy skivvies! As Mary Ann Mathews, the latter actress treats us to a peek at her black briefs. If that’s not hot enough, an adult performer (Emily Patrick) flashes her flesh for Tom during a porno shoot. In fact, she bares her breasts, bush and butt. That’s a cut! Considering all of the nudity in this movie, it’s no surprise it received a hard R rating — emphasis on hard! Long story short, we don’t need to be Private Is to feast our eyes on these starlets’ privates!
