We'll Meet Again

This well-made and oft-praised 1982 British drama describes the effect on a small British village when an American Bomber Division sets up an airbase in their back yard during World War II. Although the history of the village and the course of the war itself were thoroughly explored, the show’s main theme was the romance that develops between village local Helen Dereham (Susannah York) and Yank pilot Major Jim Kiley (Michael Shannon). The series enjoyed a phenomenal success in the UK when it first aired and is now preserved on DVD. Anyone who enjoys the scenery of rural England, a good romance tale, World War II nostalgia, or B-17’s blowing the shit out of things should look to invest in a copy. Lead actress Susannah York is probably best remembered by American audiences as Jor-El’s (Marlon Brando) baby-mama in the 1978 classic Superman, which starred Christopher Reeve in the way we’d all like to remember him--standing tall with the cape billowing behind him. But Susannah’s been in several other films and has shown up naked in more than one of them. Superman’s mom revealed her bulletproof bra-stuffers in The Killing of Sister George and The Shout, among others.
