The Howling (1981)

Back when Gremlins (1984) were just a glint in Joe Dante's eye, the director made the coolest werewolf movie this side of John Landis, whose equally brilliant An American Werewolf in London (1981) came out the same year. We're talking about The Howling (1981) of course, whose practical effects might make you weep at what's happened to cinema in the nearly half century since. Television reporter Karen White (Dee Wallace) suffers an attack by a psychopath that leaves her with amnesia, and when she begins having violent nightmares, Dee checks into "The Colony," a resort run by Dr. George Waggner (Patrick MacNee) in hopes of reclaiming her sanity. Guess what? Waggner's a tail wagger, since it's a colony of werewolves! Karen's bestie Terri (Belinda Balaski) shows up, but gets chomped, only for her boyfriend Chris (Dennis Dugan) to hear what's happening and roll up to The Colony armed to the teeth and looking for vengeance. Ends up, the dude who attacked Karen way back when is a wolf, too, and soon enough we've got a full blown battle for survival between the fur covered freaks and the hair-free humans. Whaa Hooo! Werewolves of Dante! This film's got it all: silver bullets, fang-toothed tracheotomies and the eponymous howling in the night. But best of all, it's got horny women in heat! Belinda Balaski shows the ballast tanks she calls breasts when she hops out of bed in a loose dress shirt, and lets us see down her blouse in a scene that will turn even the pack's Alpha into a master-beta! Beverly Warren shows her bush and boobs as the star of a snuff film Karen's stuck watching with the psycho who attacks her. But the best nudity comes from Elisabeth Brooks, who shows kitty, titty and ass as she plays with the docs cock! Missionary, not doggy style? Howl foul! There's a plot hole! Still, seeing Elisabeth's full moon can really change a man in The Howling.
