The Blackout (1997)

The Blackout (1997) is a French drama about a debauched Hollywood actor who tries to piece together one wild night in Miami years earlier, and soon finds out that some questions about his past are best left unanswered. Matthew Modine is Matty, a bigtime movie star who boozes and binges on drugs as hard as anyone in Hollywood. After a fight with his girlfriend Annie (Beatrice Dalle), he heads off with his director buddy Mickey (Dennis Hopper) for a night on the town. Amidst the Jack and Cokes and cocaine, he even meets another sexy woman named Annie, who he dubs Annie 2 (Sarah Lassez). A year later and Matty's sober and living in the Big Apple, but he can't remember all of that night, and thinks something big happened. He heads back to Miami to track down Annie 2, to figure out what it is he can't remember and why it was such a big deal. Bad idea. He could've just lived his life in NYC with his absurdly hot new girlfriend Susan (Claudia Schiffer), but he couldn't let sleeping dogs lie, even while getting laid by a supermodel every night. Well, that’s a tease. And this sexy noir thriller is nothing if not a dark come-on. What else could we expect from Grade-B art house auteur Abel Ferrara, who wrote and directed this, then threw in the always odd Dennis Hopper as a director making a porn documentary? Our only criticism is that beautiful European cheesecake, the blonde Claudia, is never naked. However, Beatrice Dalle bares her boobies in a sex scene that'll make you understand why, before the breakup, Annie 1 was so much fun! When Modine hangs with Hopper, he sees all sorts of big boppers. The pair watch as Daphne Duplaiz and Mercy Lopez take off their tops and play with each other, with Hopper barking out instructions at them. Eventually Matty will cop a feel of Daphne, while Dennis will do some weird dancing alongside Mercy. But the best nude work has to belong to Annie 2, as in Sarah Lassez, whose laissez faire attitude about clothing leads to her going full frontal as she let's Matty examine her body. Give us as much liquor as you want, we won't forget that body! Whether you spew to Annie 1 or 2, you'll have your dong and sack out watching The Blackout!
