Tape (2020)

Tape (2020) is a journey into the dark heart of the entertainment industry and a perpetual cycle of harassment and abuse that never seems to end. Sounds like fun, right? Well, sometimes the purpose of a film isn't to entertain but rather to make us confront the darker truths that we often seek to avoid in the harsh light of day. When the lights go down, we often expect to escape but for some people, there is no escape, and a film like Tape seeks to give us the experience of walking a mile in their shoes. Isabelle Fuhrman stars as Pearl, an aspiring actress who gets the latest in a series of rejections after auditioning for a reality television series. While having a breakdown after the audition, she is comforted by one of the show's producers, the seemingly empathetic Lux (Tarek Bishara), who offers to take Pearl under his wing and help her get a foothold in the industry. Of course, his motives turn out to be much more sinister and he soon finds himself manipulating poor Pearl while always allowing her the illusion of consent and control. It's a vicious and dark piece of work that will make every audience member confront their own demons and what each of us have done in the name of getting somewhere in this world. Isabelle Fuhrman doesn't get nude in the flick, but does show some nice cleavage in a bra, and also shows plenty of leg in bed! Now that's something worth getting on Tape!
