The Brits do love their cheeky send ups of American pop culture and the star studded short film Spider-Plant Man (2005) is one shining example of them taking a piss on a beloved American icon. However, it was all in good fun as the whole deal was for charity and created for Red Nose Day 2005. Rowan Atkinson stars as Peter Piper, a mild mannered photographer who visits a laboratory alongside an intrepid news reporter (Simon Pegg) to photograph a curious new plant species known as, you guessed it, a Spider-Plant. When two bumbling scientists played by Nick Frost and Mackenzie Crook leave him alone with the plant, Peter is bitten by the plant and gains the powers of a Spider-Plant, whatever they may be. He's really hoping that the powers conveyed to him will allow him to woo the girl of his dreams Jane Mary (Rachel Stevens) who looks absolutely astonishingly sexy in a bikini in the short film, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Instead, the powers put him on a collision course with the real heroes of the city Batman (Jim Broadbent) and Robin (Tony Robinson) who assume that Spider-Plant Man is a villain bent on taking over the city. Comic book fans have likely thrown up their hands in despair at this point in time as the mashing of Marvel and DC properties demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of copyright law. However, it's best to remember that this is all for charity and the real reason this exists is for us to ogle Rachel Stevens in her bikini!
