British act-chest Sophie Thompson has made a name for herself on the screen with roles in classy productions like Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Emma (1996), and Gosford Park (2001). Also a celebrated stage actress, she won the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Stephen Sondheim’s grown-up fairy tale Into the Woods in 1999. Sophie is probably best known in her home country of England for playing the child-abusing character of Stella Crawford on the popular soap opera EastEnders. As Jane Hogarth in the 2006 historical drama A Harlot’s Progress, Sophie shows some sackage while performing her wifely duties. Now that is progress!
