Rotting in the Sun (2023)

Real-life writer and director Sebastian Silva plays a heightened fictional version of himself, who lives in and affluent neighborhood in mid-gentrification Mexico City. Instead of working on award-winning films though, this Sebastian spends his days taking ketamine, Googling himself, contemplating suicide, taking care of his poop-eating dog, and being rude to his housekeeper (Catalina Saavedra). He decides to take a trip to a beach filled with naked gay men and ends up meeting a man who is TikTok famous for his impressions (Jordan Firstman playing, that’s right, an overly obnoxious Jordan Firstman). The talks about collaborating on a TV project together and agree to meet back in the city, but then the film takes an unexpected turn and becomes a crazy whodunnit mystery. The answer to who dun gone nude is Martine Gutierrez, who debuts her her delicious double lattes during some performance art involving a dunk tank. Now that’s how you make a splash!
