A good homicide detective is like any other kind of artist. If he has the gift, there is no way he can simply walk away from his craft. The killer-catcher whose innate skill and intuition are put to the test in Relentless 3 (1993) is recently divorced and back in the big city after a sabbatical in a more remote and rugged terrain. Reluctance has become part of his makeup, and initially he balks at taking to the trail of a rampaging serial murderer. The cop tries to hold back, indulge in half measures, contribute on a consultancy basis. But death strikes too close to home, and the dick is soon summoning every trick and wile of the deductive arts.
