This love triangle story takes place during the shaky yet liberating days just after World War II. A Yugoslavian army officer needs to choose between his young girlfriend from Paris and an affluent young widow who he’s compellingly attracted to, and whose husband fought for the enemy. The film runs through themes of hypocrisy in political philosophy, communist dogma, and caste system economics. It moves through these larger subjects, along with love, in a distinguished and artful way.
Dragana Mrkic, who plays the role of Ljiljana, the young widow, shows the most skin, providing an up close muff shot, as well as her petite pointers in the bathtub. And Ksenija Pajic, who plays Matilda, the young Parisian, also bumps her chest into the picture. At one point, the two competing women even share a bathtub scene together, and help one another clean up. I’m sure the hero of our story is thinking, the more the merrier!
