(1981) hearkens back to the idyllic days before civil war and ethnic cleansing, presenting a patient and responsible son coming of age as his strong but loving father succumbs to a final illness. The boy, more on his own than ever before, befriends denizens of the town’s petty underground and is entrusted to hide away a young prostitute. How real can any imminent danger seem, how pressing can mortality be, where is the rift between right and wrong when a new-coined man falls within the embrace of his heart’s first true mate?
